Snapshot Sunday: week 21

Another late post, but at least I have a new alliteration to spice things up. A few extra pics to make up for my tardiness and take us into week 22....only 30 weeks left of the year???

[day 141: Love the colours of our neighbours' irises.]

[day 142: Mom's alliums were in full bloom this week and gone by the weekend.]

[day 143: Collecting wood chips at the playground.]

[day 144: Trying to capture the Victoria Day fireworks.]

[day 145: Enjoying my elite status.]

[day 146: The heat doesn't change the fact that this is Cassius's least favourite activity.]

[day 147: A wonderful evening with 3 of my book club girls at the Butler's Pantry. This month's literary choice was The Gargoyle, which I cannot recommend enough!]

[day 148: Date night doesn't always have to be *at night.* Midday meal at Boom with E. The photo doesn't do my salmon eggs florentine justice...it was all so yummy!]

[day 149: Indy concentrating on his artwork.]

Foto Friday: week 20

Sorry for the tardiness. This week was super-tiring [3 long but super-fun days at day camp with my class] and I definitely lacked the creative juices/energy to take lots of photos. Here are the best of this week's slim pickings.

[day 134: I was reaching in terms of finding a subject: Diego on top of Indy's riding truck.]

[day 135: My bathing beauty.]

[day 136: Sneak peek of the Distillery District photo shoot with Nooreen and AA.]

[day 137: Trying to *smell* a dandelion puff.]

[day 138: Willowgrove Camp, day 1. Why does everyone hate dandelions so much? They're actually quite pretty. And grass is a weed too...you don't see anyone trying to get rid of all our grass!]

[day 139: Our transportation to the Low Ropes Course on the 2nd day at camp.]

[day 140: Indio showing off his straw fedora and new t-shirt from Faiza in a morning phone photo.]

Secrets from the Chef

Emil has been gracious enough to share his recipe of the scrumptious chicken we had last week. The only thing he forgot to mention is that it's even better with some wine. :) Check out the Fit 4 Life NYC website and blog for more recipes and fitness tips to live a healthier, happier life.

Well Fed: Chez Casa

Another delectable dinner made by my one and only: grilled chicken breast marinated in E's own recipe, pesto pasta [I made that!] and sauteed green beans with onions...YUM!
Accompanying the scrumptious meal was this refreshing prickly pear cactus Gewürztraminer from Pelee Island. Perfect for the warm weather that was finally bestowed on us.

A great ending to a long day...

Foto Friday: week 19

E is away this week and has my little point and shoot camera so I had to make a conscious effort to use the dSLR or get stuck with crappy phone pics. It was more difficult than I thought trying to remember to take a photo each day. Seeing as it was just Indy and I all week, there are a lot of photos of my little man.

I hope you all had a great week!

[day 127: Indy's new love of independence.]

[day 128: The crazy wind before the storm hit.]

[day 129: Trying to decide what to order at Mother's Day dinner.]

[day 130: Monkeying around for the paparazzi.]

[day 131: My sick baby vegging out watching old school Bollywood movies.]

[day 132: The one thing I get up for in the morning...ok, so he doesn't give me much choice!]

[day 133: A horrible photo in terms of quality, but a neat scene nonetheless: old fire hydrants all lined up in an empty lot. Cassius would have a field day in there!]

Well Fed: Udupi Palace

On Mother's Day my parents, Indio and I ventured to Little India on Gerrard Street in Toronto. Since I didn't have the stroller with me, I strapped Indy on in the Ergo, which was great for maneuvering through the crowds and the small spaces in the stores. I hadn't used it in awhile and was quickly reminded why I loved it so much: at 26 lbs, Indio felt like a feather!

After a bit of sari shopping for me, we decided to stop to grab a bite at Udupi Palace, a South Indian restaurant whose specialty is dosa. Dosa is a crispy crepe made of rice and lentil flour and traditionally filled with masala potatoes. You can also have them filled with paneer [Indian cheese], onions, or nothing at all. Dosa is served with a vegetable soup called sambar, which is a bit sour for my liking, and a delicious coconut chutney, which I savour so that it will last until the very last bite!

We ordered a plain dosa, masala dosa and a paneer dosa. Surprisingly, all three arrived at the same time, which is sometimes not possible at a South Indian restaurant because there is only one griddle so dosas are made one at a time. They were all cooked to perfection: crispy and hot! And the coconut chutney was probably the best I've had. My only *complaint* would be the lack of attention from the 5 or so waiters standing around while our water glasses remained unfilled.

Lately, Indio has been insistent on feeding himself, which is great, except when the food in question is curry- or tomato-based, because I hate trying to get those stains out! I will admit that I hinder his independence if it means he might get to wear that shirt one more time, stain-free! However, at Udupi, I just let him be! [Ok, ok, I changed him into a shirt that I didn't mind if it got stained, but still...]
[waiting to order.]

[dipping pieces of dosa in sambar wearing the *stainable* shirt...notice 3 waiters in the background.]

Though I was sad not to spend Mother's Day with E [he's working in NYC this week.], it was great to spend it with my mom [and dad and Indio!].

Foto Friday: week 18

Wow, more than 1/3 of the year is over already! More than 1/2 of this week's photos were taken outside, a sign of the changing weather. Yaaay! How was your week? Hope you have an exciting weekend planned!

[day 120: The fuel that gets me through a work day.]

[day 121: Seedlings ready to leave home.]

[day 122: Rainy days are perfect for goldfish.]

[day 123: Teeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy blue forgetmenots.]

[day 124: My favourite *cracker* in the box.]

[day 125: The only photo of Indy this week.]

[day 126: Rush hour made tolerable with a great audio book [yes, I'm still listening to The Gargoyle, and yes, it's still fantastic!] and freshly brewed espresso care of Maria.]

What I loved in April

  1. April is my birthday month and who doesn't love their birthday???

  2. Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers: I honestly thought it would be a long way off before we offered Indio the fake-cheese, salty snacks, but we've quickly realized what a saviour these little fish can be!

  3. Lug bags: I love my new Puddle Jumper. I can use it as a diaper bag, work bag, or just a *running around town* bag! I also have the Moped and the Dash Wristlet!

  4. Spoiling myself: Nooreen and AA gave me a generous gift certificate to Pure+Simple spa in Toronto. I used it on the very last day in April for a Super Hydrating Facial...divine!

  5. Blistex DCT [Daily Conditioning Treatment]: I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before, but I'm a lip gloss/balm junkie. I recently re-introduced Blistex DCT to my repertoire. Currently, it resides in the console of my car for those moments when my lips are in need of some rush hour traffic TLC. Added bonus: it contains SPF 20.

  6. CoverGirl Lashblast Volume Blasting Mascara. I don't usually wear a lot of makeup and I have fairly long eyelashes. My hairdresser recently told me that if I just put on a bit of mascara it would really make my eyes pop. Not sure about the popping eyes, but this stuff definitely gives me mile-long, extra lush lashes!
